The Benefits of Weight Training


Another name for Weight Training is "Progressive Resistance Training". This refers to the way in which muscles are trained by lifting progressively heavier and heavier weights in order to stimulate them to grow stronger over time. The "resistance" referred to can be selected from any number of tools at your own or your Coach's disposal, including free weights (barbells and dumbbells), machines, your own body's weight and a host of other equipment too. There simply needs to be a way of adding to the weight used,  to progressively work with a heavier and heavier load, to make the muscles and the body become stronger over time.
Not only does Resistance or Weight Training make muscles stronger and give them more "tone" and shape, but it also helps "burn" the fat tissue which covers the muscles, allowing us to see our true shape underneath.
